The motto continues to be one of the keys to Brendan Hornung’s success.

The senior right-hander navigated his way through his fourth complete game of the season Thursday, scattering 11 hits and issuing no walks, as Hawaii beat UC Riverside 4-2 to open a three-game series in California.

Alex Fitchett doubled, singled, walked and scored three runs for the Rainbow Warriors (20-11, 2-2 Big West), Logan Pouelsen was 3 for 4 and Dylan Vchulek drove in a run with a hit and added a sacrifice fly.

Hornung (5-2) threw 117 pitches and struck out five while stranding eight runners on base. On the season, he has a sparkling 67-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio with a 2.26 ERA.

Dustin Demeter and Kekai Rios had two hits apiece for Hawaii.

Richard Delgado (0-2) took the loss for the Highlanders (12-17, 1-6), throwing 4 1/3 innings and yielding six hits, three walks and two runs with a strikeout.
